The Loyola Journal Digital Law Student Magazine is a Loyola Law School Student Organization that produces an electronic publication dedicated to the advancement of legal knowledge and opinions in every area of law. The Journal is aimed at exploring and critically analyzing developing issues in the American legal system. Each issue of the digital law magazine features articles by Loyola Law students. The Loyola Journal is the first digital law student magazine at an ABA accredited law school in the State of California. Since our launch, we have been consulted to assist in launching similar publications at law schools throughout the country.

Professor Karl Manheim
Faculty Advisor
Professor Manheim is a law professor at Loyola Law School. Karl Manheim is the Loyola director of the Program for Law & Technology at the California Institute of Technology and Loyola Law School. He began teaching at Loyola in 1975; served in the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office from 1980-84; and returned to Loyola in 1984. He has also taught at the University of Southern California Law School (1996) and at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing, China (1992).

Paymon Khatibi
Editor-In-Chief, Founder
Paymon is a fourth year evening student who will graduate in December of 2011. He is on the executive board of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles Loyola Chapter. Paymon is the founder and editor-in-chief of the Loyola Journal and currently works as a law clerk at Geragos & Geragos where he assists in both criminal and civil trials.


Shiba Etemadian
Managing Editor
Shiba is  a 2011 LLS graduate, recipient of the Court Call Award, Byrne Trial Advocacy Competition Award, and the only recipient of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award. She is currently an adjunct staff member as a coach for LLS for the Byrne Trial Advocacy Team. Shiba is a law clerk at Ardalan & Associates, where she does civil litigation.

Paul McCullum
Senior Editor
Paul is a fourth year evening student graduating in May 2012 with a concentration in tax law. Paul is a judicial extern for the Honorable Sheri Bluebond at U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. He is also a volunteer for the Taxpayer’s Appeals Assistance Program and the Domestic Violence Clinic.

Jennifer Weldy

Jennifer is a fourth year evening student who will graduate in May 2012. Jennifer works for Wood Smith Henning & Berman as a law clerk assisting on cases in the areas of commercial and business, real estate, land use, and employment litigation. Jennifer is also an extern at The Center for Conflict Resolution, where she does mediation and conciliation.

Judith Felz

Judith is a fourth year evening student who is graduating in December of 2011. She has worked as a law clerk in the legal department at the California Department of Real Estate and at the Los Angeles branch of the Federal Trade Commission. Judith also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcón, United States Circuit Judge, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Evelina Shpolyansky is a fourth year evening student who will be graduating in May of 2012. Currently, Evelina is an Extern for Judge Sandra R. Klein at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California and also an Intern at the California State Controller’s Office.

Alex Megerdechian

Alex is a fourth year evening student who will graduate in December of 2012. Alex is a certified paralegal and specializes in bankruptcy law, real estate law, and litigation. Alex works for a Fortune 500 company as an in-house paralegal where he assists in real estate acquisitions, litigation and bankruptcy issues. Alex also spends a significant amount of time volunteering at various centers assisting the edlerly and under-privileged.

Anita Moradian

Anita is a graduate of Loyola’s class of 2011. Anita is currently interning at the Center for Health Services Research and Development at the American University of Armenia in Yerevan, focusing on health policy research on Tuberculosis, Lyme Disease, and Armenia’s Anti-Tobacco Campaign.

Arpana is a May 2011 graduate of Loyola Law School. While in school, she was president of the South Asian Law Students Association. Upon graduation, Arpana relocated to Texas and plans to practice law there. She currently resides in Austin, TX where she works as a legal assistant for The Martinez Jones Law Firm.

Daniel Eliav

Daniel is a graduate of Loyola’s Class of 2011.   Prior to law school, Daniel received a Masters in Public Health from UCLA. While at Loyola, Daniel was the President of the Health Law and Bioethics Association and worked as an extern for the Honorable Gary A. Feess in the Central District of the United States District Court.  Daniel has also worked for the General Counsel of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, the firm of Bonne Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols, and the National Senior Citizen’s Law Center. Currently, Daniel works for the UCLA Health System as a Senior Administrative Analyst in the Department of Human Resources.

Joshua Anderson

Joshua graduated cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Loyola Law School in May of 2011, where he was also on the Dean’s List.  He is passionate about family law, and also desires to practice in the area of complex torts.

Lahaina is a third year evening student who will graduate in December ‘12. Lahaina is a law clerk works with the Law Offices of David M. Dudley and assist in criminal defense trials. She also externs and assists as a grant-writer for the Los Angeles Family Law Help Center.

Maia is a third year evening student who will graduate in May 2013. Maia works as a law clerk at Bet Tzedek Legal Services where she assists Holocaust survivors in obtaining reparations from German government. Maia also clerks at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office where she assists a deputy district attorney in conducting preliminary hearings.

Natalie is a third year J.D./Tax LL.M student who will graduate in May 2012. She was an extern for the IRS, Office of Chief Counsel and is currently an intern in the International Tax Consulting department at Grant Thornton, LLP.

Omer Ivanir

Omer is currently a fourth year evening law student at Loyola Law School and a member of the Saint Thomas More Honor Society. Mr. Ivanir received his BA with honors from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business and started his career in investment banking with short stints at Marcus Millichap and Morgan Stanley. Mr. Ivanir is currently an Assistant Vice President with George Smith Partner, a premier real estate investment bank. Mr. Ivanir is a recreational pilot and has lived a portion of his life in Israel and Mexico.

Dana is a 2011 Loyola graduate. She focused on public interest during her time at Loyola, and externed with Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles and Legal Services New York City. After Dana graduated, she went on to work in the editorial department of The American Lawyer magazine.
